Chapter Philanthropy and Service

"...to prepare for service and learn the nobility of serving, thereby earning the right to be served..."

                    -Zeta Tau Alpha Creed

Statistically, one in every 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. To the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha, this is far too high a number. Our philanthropy, breast cancer education and awareness, is a cause that speaks to many of our members and touches them personally. Many of our members have had aunts, mothers, sisters or friends who have been affected by this disease, making giving back that much more personal. This also makes our philanthropy unique, as we are able to give back to a cause as opposed to a single organization. Through our members nationwide as well as our partnerships, we strive to beat the fight against cancer and help make this devastating disease affect as few men and women as possible.

The American Cancer Society hosts "Making Strides" runs and walks that our chapter is able to volunteer at. Whether it be cheering on runners, passing out ribbons to survivors, or getting to meet the people this disease has affected personally, our chapter is able to make a personal connection, give back to the community, and have an experience that they will never forget.

Through our partnership with Bright Pink, we are able to provide education workshops to our community to make them aware of the realities of breast cancer as well as ways to be proactive to catch the disease early. Entirely organized by our chapter, it is an amazing opportunity to educate our community.

Through our partnership with the NFL, every year in October we are able to volunteer at a "crucial catch" game. This past October, our chapter volunteered with the San Diego Chargers. Passing out ribbons to spectators, holding giant breast cancer ribbons on the field, meeting fellow Zeta sisters from other campuses and seeing the players represent Zeta makes for an unforgettable day.

Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as such our chapter puts on a week long philanthropy, "Think Pink Week." Throughout the week, we hold events to raise awareness of breast cancer, and all proceeds we make go directly to our cause for the cure. We also pass out pink ribbons in support to students on campus as well.

We also hold two major philanthropy events at our house during the school year. In the fall semester, we put on Berry Sweet Night, where our members and members of the greek community come together to raise money for our philanthropy all while dancing and having a great time! Crownchella is our spring philanthropy event that is Coachella themed. For this event, we also come together to raise money and spread awareness.

We hold our philanthropy very dear to our hearts, but we also participate and donate to other fraternity and sorority's philanthropies as well. Our school has twelve different fraternities and eight different sororities, so we are kept very busy! We love giving back at these events as well as our own.
